What Are You Doing For Earth Day?

This weekend marks the 42nd Earth Day, and Sierra Club volunteers will be marking the day with a variety of cleanups, restoration projects, and other service projects to improve Illinois’ environment. Sunday, April 22nd is Earth Day, but events are happening on both Saturday and Sunday.

The weather looks cool, but dry and sunny! Get outside and join us for Earth Day – do something fun and do something good!

Montrose Beach Sweep (Chicago)
Sat, April 21 7:00AM to 11:00AM

Sierra Club volunteers, students, and community partners pick up litter, trash, and debris on Chicago’s Montrose Beach. Special guests include: Congressman Mike Quigley, State Representative Sara Feigenholtz, 46th Ward Alderman James Cappleman At 7AM, Sierra Club will lead a nature tour of the restored dune and grassland at Chicago’s most beautiful beach. From 9AM until 11AM, volunteers will clean the beach.

Earth Day Celebration At Deer Grove Forest Preserve (Palatine)
Saturday, April 21 9:30AM to 2:30PM

LOCATION: Deer Grove Forest Preserve, Palatine. Entrance is on North side of Dundee Road between Quentin and Hicks Roads – Picnic Spot, Grove #2. Sierra Club volunteers and partners work to restore natural habitat to Cook County’s Forest Preserves at Deer Grove.
Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle will speak at 12:30PM

Fox River Clean Sweeps (Aurora-Batavia-Elgin)
Sat., April 21, 9AM to Noon

Join Sierra Club and other local groups as we continue a 10-year tradition of clearing the Fox River banks of winter’s debris. We’ll be at multiple locations:

Aurora, North of Downtown – Fox Valley Park District parking lot on Orchard Ave., near Lake St. and Illinois Ave. Watch for the green Sierra Club signs at entrance of the parking lot.
